Magic Johnson shreds prenuptial pact as birthday gift to wife
Cookie Johnson recently announced that her husband, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, had torn up the prenuptial agreement the two signed two years ago, as a 34th birthday present for her, according to a report in USA Today.
There had been a story in a New York paper that the two had separated. "We're getting along better than ever, it's a better relationship. That's what bugs me about this. It couldn't be further from the truth," she was quoted as saying in the paper.
The paper estimated Johnson's worth at $100 million. Johnson, while celebrating his wife's birthday at the trendy Roxy club in West Hollywood, reportedly shredded the document. The party was a surprise for Cookie and brought out about 300 friends such as Arsenio Hall and Eddie LeVert (of the O'Jays) and his son Gerald of the group LeVert.
Mrs. Johnson also told the paper "we're more in love than ever before." She said the two had been to the inauguration, the Super Bowl and were set to go to Boston for the tribute to retired Celtics superstar Larry Bird. Magic could not be reached for comment by JET press time.
As Cookie told EBONY Magazine last April, "I love him very much and I always have. We've been together off and on for 14 years and the love that we've built up over that time period is what I hold on to. There's no way - even though something like this (his contracting the HIV virus) happened - that I was going to just throw it all away and not stand by him and leave him to deal with it by himself. There's no way I would do that."
