Bridal funny gift shower
INSIDE TRACK; PR gal is real `Modern Bride'
Sounds like a busman's holiday to us, but to Boston PR gal Nicole Glor, courting the big bridal mags to feature her exotic Mexican wedding was just another day at the office.
After more than a year of wooing Modern Bride, Glor's April wedding to WHDH-TV weekend anchor Jeffrey Glor finally has scored a two-page spread in the ultimate bride guide's February/March issue.
"I am thrilled," Glor told the Track. "Doing PR, I know how hard it is to get into these magazines."
Glor, knowing her "destination wedding" at her parents' beach- front hideaway on Mexico's Riviera Maya coast was on the bridal cutting edge, launched her promotional campaign in October 2002.
The Regan Communications TV relations gal said her goal wasn't to score press clips for herself or her groom.
It was, however, an ingenious way to market her parents' exotic vacation home an hour south of Cancun. Which is, of course, available to rent!
Elegant Bride and Southern Bride quickly took the bait and even ran the property's Web site - www.casatropical.com - which generated many inquiries. But those sticklers at Modern Bride chose to flog the festivities, not the Web site.
"They interviewed me five or six times and told me to send them photos after the wedding, which I did," she said. "And even though they didn't run the Web site I'm delighted we got in."
File Under: Media Shower?
Kerry bashes bash
White House wannabe John Kerry is soooooooooo exhausted from running for president that he's pulled the plug on his annual New Year's Eve blow-out in Sun Valley, Idaho.
"The rigors of the campaign trail," a Kerry spokesgal explained.
Awwwwwwwwwww.
The bash, thrown by Kerry and wifey, ketchup heiress Teresa Heinz, has been called the hottest ticket for all the celebrity ski bunnies. So this year, Frederic Fekkai, Donna Karan, William O'Shaughnessy and Jann Wenner will have to guzzle Dom and belt out "Auld Lang Syne" somewhere else.
John and Teresa will be turning in early . . .
Side Tracks
Christmas Leftovers:
- Three cheers to New England Patriots cornerback Ty Law, who gifted his mom with a new Mercedes SL500 on Christmas Day. Law told USA Today he had the wheels delivered to Mom wrapped in a big bow. Well, how many more Estee Lauder gift sets can one woman use???
- Chris Black, aide de camp to ketchup heiress Teresa Heinz, is engaged - to a Republican! Black is wearing a lovely 1920s art-deco diamond given to her by her college pal B. Jay Cooper. The two met when he was editor of the Northeastern University News and Black, a former journalist, was working there. They went their separate ways for 30 years, then reunited in Washington where Black, a former CNN reporter with Demmie leanings, was working for Heinz. Cooper, who had spun for a number of high-powered Reagan Republicans and was spokesman for the Republican National Committee, is a D.C. PR consultant. No wedding date yet, but they'll probably do the "I Dos" sometime next year. Mazel tov!
- Congrats to Al Barr, lead singer of Boston's own Dropkick Murphys, and his wife, Jessica, who recently gave birth to a baby boy, Strummer. The new rock 'n' roll animal, who is named after their pal, the late Joe Strummer of The Clash, checked in at 8 pounds, 10 ounces.
- And more glad tidings to Talbots fashion diva Betsy Thompson and hubby Scott, who hung another cashmere stocking from the mantle this Christmas. The couple returned home from China shortly before the holiday with their new daughter, Sophie Mei. No doubt there were tons of Talbots Kids clothing under the Thompsons' tree this year!
- Sports yakkers Glenn Ordway, Fred Smerlas and Steve D'Ossie doled out a $10,000 check to the top cops from the Mass. Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation. The money for the memorial to fallen police officers was raised last summer at a motorcycle ride.
- Applause, please, for Nine Zero, which snagged a spot on Conde Nast Traveler's 2004 "Gold List" in the January issue. The Hub hotel was a newcomer to the readers' choice poll of the world's best places to stay. Other locals who also made the list: the fab Four Seasons, the Ritz-Carlton, Boston, XV Beacon and the Wauwinet in Nantucket. No surprise here.
- And finally, we hear Arlington homey Dane Cook's shows are sold- out at the Comedy Connection at Faneuil Hall tonight, but you still can catch his act on the big screen. The comedian is a laugh-riot as Officer Fraioli in the Farrelly Brothers' funny flick "Stuck On You."
