Oklahoma's oil, gas production down despite surging oil prices
Oklahoma's oil and natural gas production was down for the first 10 months of 2004 from a year earlier, despite the year's rising crude oil futures prices, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission reported Tuesday.
Total oil production from January to October 2004 totaled 53.1 million barrels, down 2.6 percent from 54.5 million barrels for the first 10 months of 2003. Oil production in October totaled 5.1 million barrels, down from 5.3 million barrels in September 2004, according to the commission.
Total gas production from January to October 2004 totaled 1.31 trillion cubic feet, down from 1.36 trillion cubic feet a year earlier. Gas production in October totaled 130 billion cubic feet, up from 118 billion cubic feet for the September.
The average oil price in October was $51.98 per barrel, the commission reported. The average price for Oklahoma gas in October was $5.16 per thousand cubic feet.
