Baby gift basket and idea
Prized presents
Jennifer Davis' quirky-hip San Francisco shop, Prize (below), is a study in seeing things anew. Davis loves to take vintage classics out of their normal context, mix in new things, and tweak them so they all feel fresh. She applies that same touch to gifts. We asked her for a few Mother's Day ideas geared toward moms-to-be. The shop frequently carries vintage locker baskets, animal-shape ceramic cachepots, and trophy cups, which make fun gift containers. Start with an animal cachepot or a locker basket lined with canvas, and fill it with such baby essentials as onesies or terry bibs. Engrave vintage trophy cups with the child's name or "1st Prize Baby," and fill with fresh flowers. Davis also suggests asking a mom what her favorite childhood books were, then present her with a mini library of those tomes or a first edition of a special book.
