Judy House

Stanley N. and Julia "Judy" House, Topeka, observed their 55th wedding anniversary June 19.

Stanley N. House and Julia Ritchey were married June 19, 1949, in Cheney.

They have two children, Joy Burchfield, Topeka, and Robert House, Wichita.

The couple have four grandchildren, Rachel Burchfield, Topeka; Ryan House, Barberton, Ohio; and Tyler House and Bryant House, Wichita.


Mr. House retired in 1984 from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as an engineer after 38 years of service.

Mrs. House retired in 1986 from Kansas Electric Co-operatives Inc. as a secretary after 17 years of service.

Richard and

Martha Burgardt

Richard and Martha Burgardt, Arlington, Texas, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner.

Martha Weber and Richard Burgardt were married July 10, 1954, in San Antonio.

Their family includes six children, one of whom is deceased, and four grandchildren.

Mr. Burgardt is a graduate of Topeka High School and Washburn University. He is retired from General Dynamics.

Mrs. Burgardt is retired from Mecca Enterprises.

Ruth and

Kenneth Gurney

Kenneth L. and Ruth E. Gurney, Topeka, will be guests of honor at a reception from 1 to 3 p.m. July 10 on the porch at Garfield Shelter House, 1600 N. Quincy, in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Ruth E. Dillner and Kenneth L. Gurney were married July 10, 1954, in Onaga.

Their six children and spouses are Linda and Jared Workman, Topeka; Kay and David W. Shepherd, Hoyt; and Peggy Gurney, Terry Gurney, James and Christy Gurney, and Danny Gurney, all of Topeka.

The Gurneys have six grandchildren, Kendra Workman, Topeka; Rebecca Workman, Columbia, Mo.; Michelle Workman, Topeka; Rhonda Shepherd and Angie Shepherd, Topeka; and Bud Shepherd, Hoyt.

Mr. Gurney retired in 1991 from Yellow Freight as a city delivery driver after 35 years of service.

Mrs. Gurney is a homemaker, wife and mother.

Tootie and

Ray Hodges

Ray and Tootie Hodges, Topeka, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at a reception from 1:30 to 3 p.m. July 10 at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 S.W. Burlingame Road.

They were married May 6, 1954, at First Baptist Church in Ozark, Ark.

Reception hosts will be their children, Cindy and Bryan Yenter, Shoshone, Idaho, and Susan and Bob Laushman, Pittsburg. They have three grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

Mr. Hodges retired from Santa Fe Railway in 1986 as assistant to general manager-rules after 40 years of service.

Mrs. Hodges retired in 1987 after 10 years of service as a receptionist and secretary at the Kansas East Conference, United Methodist Church.

Georgia and

Ken Smith

Ken and Georgia Smith are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary today.

Ken Smith and Georgia Arthur were married July 4, 1954, in Pittsburg. They moved to Topeka later that year.

Their three sons and their wives are Greg Smith, Kansas City; Doug and Peggy Smith, Topeka; and Clint and Michelle Smith, Irving, Texas. They have five grandsons and two granddaughters.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith are retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone in Topeka. They reside in both Shell Knob, Mo., and Rockport, Texas.

Bob and Joy Millard

A reception will honor Bob and Joy Millard, Topeka, from 2 to 4 p.m. July 10 at the Goodyear Shelter House at 2000 N.W. US-24 highway, in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Hosts will be their children and grandchildren.

Bob Millard and Joy Meler were married July 2, 1954, in Hanford, Calif.

Their children are Steve and Vicky Millard, Topeka; Jane and Steve Thomas, Rossville; Terrie and Mark Norris, Topeka; and Emmet and Darca Millard, Tecumseh. They have eight grandchildren and one great- grandchild.

Mr. Millard retired in 1992 from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 24 years of service.

Mrs. Millard is a homemaker.

Charles and

Shirley Linn

Charles and Shirley Linn, Tecumseh, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with refreshments following the 10:30 a.m. worship service July 11 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4746 S.W. 21st in Topeka.

Hosts will be their children, Steven and Jane, of Hillsboro, Ore., and Charles and Mary, of New York City.

The couple request no gifts, but cards sent to 7541 S.E. 61st, Tecumseh, 66542, are most welcome.

Dean and Addie Hoffsommer

Dean and Addie Hoffsommer, Overbrook, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. July 11 at First Christian Church in Overbrook.

Hosts will be their children.

Dean Hoffsommer and Addie Richardson were married July 11, 1954, at Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church in Topeka.

They have three children, Terry, Joi and Lisa; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Mr. Hoffsommer worked for Santa Fe Railway for 18 years. In 1964 he also began to farm at their new home northeast of Michigan Valley in Osage County.

Mrs. Hoffsommer has worked as a draftsman for three independent companies in Topeka. She retired in 1995.

The couple request no gifts.

Kingsley and Lillian Frey

Kingsley and Lillian Frey, Topeka, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family picnic June 26 at a Lake Shawnee shelter house.

Picnic hosts were their children, Christi Frey, Mesa, Ariz.; Kelli Frey, Overland Park; Anthony and Ingrid Frey, Leavenworth; and Angela and Gary Hailes, Overland Park.

Kingsley Frey and Lillian Southern were married June 26, 1954, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, located at 14th and Monroe in Topeka at that time.

In 1999, the couple celebrated their 45th anniversary with their church family and friends and with a Caribbean cruise, a gift from their children.

The couple have five grandchildren, Charity, Erin and Lauren Frey, and Lindsey and Evan Hailes.

Mr. Frey served four years in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He retired from Santa Fe Railway in 1991 after 39 years of service.

Mrs. Frey retired from Community Action in 1991 after 22 years of service.

Donna and

Larry Eby

Larry and Donna Eby, Mayetta, will celebrate their 41st wedding anniversary as guests of honor at a reception from 4 to 7 p.m. July 10 at the Holton Eagles Lodge, 21808 218th Lane at Holton. A dance will follow the reception.

Donna Price and Larry Eby were married July 12, 1963, in Mayetta.

Hosts will be their children, Joyce and Dennis Kroll, Topeka; Glenda and Dirk Tyler, St. Marys; and Linda Eby and Tim Snyder, Topeka.

The Ebys have seven grandchildren, who with their spouses, are Billy and Melissa Wyre, Topeka; Jason Wyre and Denise Hayes, Topeka; Danielle Wyre, Topeka; Robin and Craig Welker, Topeka; Christopher Kittle, St. Marys; Samantha Eby-Snyder, Topeka; and Halie Snyder, Topeka.

They have four great-grandchildren, Taylor Wyre, Brett Wyre, Dawson Wyre and Kelsi Hayes, all of Topeka.

Mr. Eby retired in 1997 as an electrician after 30 years of service.

Mrs. Eby is a homemaker.

Darlene and

Harold Sage

Harold and Darlene Sage, Burlingame, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a reception Saturday in the Community Center in Burlingame hosted by their children.

Darlene Chelf and Harold Sage were married July 3, 1954, in Lyndon.

Their children are Sharon Modin and Mike Foresman, Topeka; Daniel and Karen Sage, Reading; Carol Sage, Topeka; and Gloria and Larry Cavanagh, Auburn.

Mr. Sage is retired from Sage Brothers Trucking.

Mrs. Sage is a homemaker.
