JOHN W. CROFF

John William Croff, 88, passed away on July 25, 2002. He had been a resident and businessman of Colorado Springs since 1950. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church for almost 50 years.

John was born on September 3, 1913 in Jefferson City, Missouri. On May 1, 1937, he married Dorothea Johanna Markway of Wardsville, Missouri. Dorothea passed away in 1997, shortly after their 60th wedding anniversary.

The couple moved to Colorado Springs in 1950 to open the John Croff Paint Store. When he wasn't at the store, he was doing handiwork around the house, taking walks, reading or napping. He especially enjoyed doing these things on weekends at the mountain cabin his family owned for 25 years.

After his retirement, he became very involved at Silver Key Senior Services, where he enjoyed using his God-given gift of serving others. He felt that God had given him much, and giving back to others was his duty as a Christian.

Two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren also survive him. Peter, his oldest son, died in 1989.

The children of Mr. Croff wish to express their sincere appreciation to Namaste Alzheimer's Center, who cared for their father since last January and to the very end last week. The staff, aides, and nurses treat the residents with respect and dignity, and John's family will be forever grateful. They would also like to acknowledge Pikes Peak Hospice, whose staff provides invaluable assistance to the members of this community.
